Our working assumptions: On our quest to become intelligent about artificial intelligence (pun purely coincidental), we have developed the following working assumptions: (1) AI hasn’t happened suddenly: What we are witnessing in the past six months is a culmination of 10+ years’ improvement in machine learning, computing, neural networks, etc.; (2) AI innovation curve is accelerating: Things are moving fast, and AI leadership today doesn’t guarantee leadership tomorrow; (3) AI is on top of everyone’s minds: More than 10x growth in the number of times AI and/or related phrases are mentioned on earnings conference calls; (4) AI will create and destroy significant value: "AI Big Six" have a combined market cap of more than $14tn. Any change in this list over the next three years might be directly or indirectly linked to AI; and (5) AI is likely not going to lead to a "winner takes most" market dynamic as long as new tech gets commensurate distribution.

Further takeaways on the state of AI can be found in our ongoing  “AI on the Street” research series. As part of this series, we monitor tech developments with the AI Mafia, aka Tech Big Six (Apple (AAPL–NC), Microsoft (MSFT–NC), Alphabet (GOOGL–Buy), Amazon (AMZN–Buy), Meta (META–Buy), and Nvidia (NVDA– NC)), start-up innovations, and investor debates. Links to recent AI research notes:

AI on the Street #15: MadeByGoogle; AI Cloud 2Q EPS, RoboTaxis, Buyside Blogs

AI on the Street #14: OpenAI IPO; Apple AI; Advt. Black Box; AI-only cloud vendors

AI on the Street #13: AI's App Store, AI at CES, Perplexity, AI Predictions
